Portrait Painting Workshop with JACOB DHEIN

The four day workshop will concentrate on the salient topics relating to painting the portrait. Each day will start with Jacob doing a lecture and/or demonstration pertaining to relevant topics and skills in the various stages of a portrait painting. During the course the participants will paint two or more portrait paintings from observation giving them an opportunity to work through the principles covered in the workshop to give a greater understanding.

Main Topics covered during the workshop;


accurate drawing (proportions)

value control (benefits of the 5 value system)

edge control

importance of proper temperature shifts

using value and color to show depth

color theory

simplifying shadow shapes

the use of various tools and techniques to achieve expressive effects

deconstruction/disrupted realism

wet into wet painting vs. wet on dry painting


After you've completed your registration you will receive a Supplies List via email. The cost for this workshop is $550.00 per participant. Absolutely No Refunds and No Make-up Dates. A full refund will be issued to registrants only if the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art or the Instructor cancels this workshop. 15 Artist Class Size Maximum. Registrant is responsible for providing all materials required.
