WMOCA is a place where people from Northern Wisconsin can experience the work and ideas of artists – both living and deceased – to understand the historical, social and cultural context of the art of our time. We integrate exhibitions, performances, collections, and educational programs to excite, challenge, and enlighten our visitors.
Our vision will inspire generations of north central Wisconsin residents and visitors throughout the nation to understand and appreciate the art of our time. We are located in the historic Wausau Club at 309 McClellan Street in the very heart of Wausau’s vibrant downtown, featuring artworks by nationally and internationally established artists. Our goal is to unleash our region’s creative energy and to engage a broad and diverse audience in conversation about how art connects us, allowing us to grow and thrive as a community.
Approaching our 4th year, the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art, WMOCA, continues to strive to expand its programs and offerings to the community. We hope that you will be able to take part in one or more of the many exciting events and exhibitions we are offering this year.
In order to meet our mission and provide services in our community, we rely on the generosity of individuals and businesses for support. Without the assistance of community-minded individuals just like you, we wouldn’t be able to serve those in our community each year. There are no paid employees at the museum. Everyone is volunteering their time including the Executive Director, Curator, Administrator, and the Receptionist. This means your donation goes directly to supporting the exhibitions we bring to our community.
According to studies performed annually by the National Endowment for the Arts, NEA, for every dollar invested in the arts, seven dollars is returned to the community it serves. They also state that museum goers will spend an average of just under $20 per person prior to or after viewing an exhibit within the immediate vicinity of the museum. We are proud to report we’ve experienced over 15,000 visitors from around the world since opening.
